The Port Isabel, Texas, Rotary Club, in conjunction with Rotary District 5930, is once again sponsoring work crews to Trujillo, Honduras. Our International partners are the Trujillo Rotary Club and District 4250.
In 2007, Rotarians and others built a new three classroom school in the Community of the Tigers, a new two classroom school in 18 de Abril, two additional classrooms in Remolino, and renovated a school in Trujillo.
In 2008, volunteers and villagers, built two new classrooms at a school in Silin, two new classrooms at a school in Buenos Aires, a new kindergarten in the Pech Indian village, a new school in the Cunda community, and a new kindergarten in 13 de Junio.
Through a Rotary Foundation matching grant we also provided power to the school and village of 18 de Abril, provided water for the 750 households in Barrio Cristales, provided 153 computers for schools along the Honduran north coast and science equipment for 9 schools in Trujillo, and built new latrines at 3 schools.
In 2009, we built 2 classrooms and new latrines in Guadalupe Carney, 2 classrooms and a new power supply in Moradel (Pech), a classroom and new latrines in Rio Claro, a classroom in Monte Cristo, provided power to the villages of Caribbean Mission, Cunda and La Brea, built a 36,000 gallon water tank and dam for San Martin, and reforested the watershed of San Martin and Cristales. We also provided 150 computers and teacher training for area schools.
In 2010, we built two classrooms at Guadalupe Carney, one classroom at Monte Cristo, a 51x75 multi-purpose playground at Rodriguez, and planted 1000 trees to reforest the Sam Martin watershed.
