2008 PROJECTS
Professor Ramon Galan Rodriguez School, Comunidad 18 de Abril
School Electrification
In 2007, we built a new two-classroom school. Frank Condron, Edna, Texas, Rotarian, and Jesus Romero Reyes, a local electrician, wired the two new classrooms. Most of the materials came out of inventory.

Power project
In 2008, thanks to a Matching Grant, we are providing the 30 homes in the community of 18 de Abril and the school with power. This project should be completed by October, 2008. |

School Window Screening
Thanks to 5930 PDG Tom Moore, McAllen, Texas, we screened the windows of the new school.

BARRIO CRISTALES
This barrio of 750 households on the north coast did not have a water supply. Thanks to a matching grant, we funded the construction of a 26,000 gallon water tank that will tap a pre-existing dam to provide water to the community.
The townspeople built the tank and various levels of government and the government will provide the PVC and pumps. This project should be completed by the end of 2008.

SILIN
Escuela Republica de Colombia, 158 students
This four classroom school was overcrowded. We built two new 20x20 classrooms with electricity. Classrooms were dedicated to Rotary District 5930 past District Governor Tom Moore and past Treasurer Bill Mann.

CUNDA, SANTA FE, Escuela Noemi Siomara Rodriguez, 23 students
This termite infested barn board school was in sad shape. We built a new 20x30 school. The school was dedicated to Carol and Tom Plumb.

MORADEL
Pech Indians, Escuela Elvira Tome
The old adobe and thatch kindergarten was falling down. We replaced it with a new 20x20 school. We also built new latrines and wired the school
(in anticipation of providing power to the community in 2009)

COMPUTERS
Thanks to a Matching Grant, we provided 153 computers to 16 schools along the north coast. 61 of these computers went to 10 Trujillo schools.
Dr. Mary Curtis, University of Texas, Brownsville, and Edward Argueta, Principal of the Brownsville Math and Science Academy,spent two weeks training Trujillo area teachers.

SCIENCE EQUIPMENT
We provided science equipment to 9 schools in Trujillo—microscopes, telescopes, bug watches, magnets, solar systems, etc. Dr. Curtis and Mr. Argueta also trained the teachers in the use of the new equipment.

SUPPORT COSTS
We, of course, need to rent vans and buy gas to transport volunteers around Trujillo. We also provide plaques recognizing donors at each site as well as Trujillo club flags to give to our volunteers. We require cell phones to communicate with each other and have other support costs to make all this happen.
